Library Posts Community Resources

Lancaster Public Library, 125 N. Duke St., Lancaster, works to direct patrons to resources for maintaining their health and wellness. This is accomplished by partnering with local health care providers who provide library programming and disseminate information on current health topics.

Once a month, nurses from Penn State Health visit the library and offer free, walk-in health screenings. Screenings include cholesterol and blood pressure checks, as well as referrals to local health and social services. Additionally, the nursing team offers informal programming each month. Health screenings take place every second Monday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As part of National Recovery Month, Lancaster Public Library will host identical overdose awareness and naloxone training events on Monday, Sept. 19, at noon and at 5:30 p.m. A representative from Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health will explain how to detect an opioid overdose and how to use naloxone to reverse an overdose. Space is limited, and registration is required. For full event details and links to registration, visit http://www.LancasterPublicLibrary.org/events.

The library is partnering with Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health to make free naloxone kits available at both Lancaster Public Library locations. Each kit includes two doses of naloxone and an instruction pamphlet. For more information, visit http://www.LancasterPublicLibrary.org/narcan-available-at-lpl.
