LaRuffa Earns Eagle Rank

Boy Scout Jeffrey LaRuffa of Hershey has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Troop 65 in Hershey.

For his Eagle Scout project, LaRuffa built a 25-foot concrete block retaining wall to support the custom-built barbecue smoker at American Legion Post 386 in Hershey. He then created a paver patio for the smoker to be stored. Moving the smoker from its previous location also created additional handicapped-accessible parking. LaRuffa also created a fire pit out of leftover retaining wall blocks, as well as a metal log rack for the smoker's wood.

LaRuffa earned the rank of Eagle in March and was officially awarded his patch and medal at his troop's May Court of Honor. He made a display of his years in Scouting, beginning as a Cub Scout in first grade with Troop 108. He transferred to Troop 65 in third grade. Also included in the display were photos from his Eagle Scout project. LaRuffa presented representatives of the American Legion with a wooden pallet American flag he made after being awarded the rank of Eagle.

LaRuffa has also earned other Scouting awards and honors, such as 44 merit badges, four Eagle Palms, the National Outdoor Achievement Award for Camping, the Hometown USA Award, Mile Swim BSA, and Scuba BSA. He has also served in multiple leadership positions in his troop, such as historian, assistant senior patrol leader, instructor, and, most recently, junior assistant Scoutmaster and senior patrol leader. He has completed numerous hours of community service throughout his community. Besides attending multiple weekend camps and summer camps, LaRuffa will attend one of BSA's high adventure camps, Florida Sea Base, this summer.

A junior at Lower Dauphin High School, LaRuffa is a member of the National Honor Society and History Honor Society, class president, and a Mini-THON committee member. He is also a member of both the Lower Dauphin High School boys' swim team and the Hummelstown Flamingos.
