Landis receives scholarship

The Susquehanna Valley Umpires Association (SVUA) recently awarded one of its annual $1,000 scholarships to Avery Landis, a senior catcher on the Hempfield High School varsity softball team.

To receive a scholarship, a student must be a member in good standing on her high school's varsity softball team in her senior year; have played 10U, 12U, or 14U youth softball; submit a 500-word essay; participate in community and extracurricular activities; and submit letters of recommendation from a softball coach and a teacher. High school GPA is also taken into account.

Landis plans to attend Penn State University to major in education.

SVUA is affiliated with USA Softball. Members of SVUA officiate for the Lancaster County Girls Softball League, travel and showcase games, PIAA high school junior varsity and varsity softball, and NCAA Women's Softball.
