Lancaster County Scout earns Gold Award

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania recently announced that Emily Fasig from Lancaster County has earned the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Girl Scout Gold Award.

Fasig's project, the "Milanof-Schock Library Project," focused on addressing accessibility and seating in an outdoor space at the library. Fasig built two tables with wheelchair and stroller access for the space. She partnered with members of the library staff to complete the project. Her project's mission will continue through use of the tables and outdoor space by library patrons. Fasig devoted a minimum of 80 hours to problem-solve, plan, and implement her ideas.

The Gold Award is available to girls in high school who create sustainable change for a community or world issue.

The Gold Award process not only enables girls to help their communities, but also provides tangible benefits as they grow as individuals. Girls build professional skills, earn scholarships, and build their network, and those interested in serving their country are able to enlist at a higher pay grade when they join the military.
