Juniper Village Presents Broadway Senior Show

Juniper Village at Mount Joy recently announced that it is the fifth Juniper Community to do a Broadway Senior Show. The performance of "Singin' in the Rain, Senior," which was held at the stage of the Janus School on June 20 and 21, featured actors who were all residents currently residing at Juniper Village, 607 Hearthstone Lane, Mount Joy.

Carol Kase was featured in the role of Miss Dinsmore, and Doris Schmitt played Lina Lamont, the silent film diva with a big personality. Katie Erb, Juniper Village connections director, served as the show's director and producer.

A team of volunteers included six students from three local high schools, participating as cast assistants, crew and lighting and sound designers. Shawn from Donegal Performing Arts came to support four of his students and help with the show, as well as with costumes and props.

Ruth Sweigart served as accompanist. She is currently the accompanist of Voices of the Valley, which performs in various venues in the central Pennsylvania area.

The program was made possible through a special partnership with Music Theatre International (MTI), a theatrical licensing agency. MTI's Broadway Senior collection features adaptations of popular Broadway musicals specifically developed for the needs and abilities of adult performers age 55 and over regardless of ability, age or prior experience. In 2018, Juniper piloted the first Broadway Senior Show in an assisted living community and plans to continue to expand the program to other locations.

Juniper offers assisted living, independent living and memory care. To learn more about Juniper Village in Mount Joy, contact sales and marketing director Beverly Zimmermann at 717-492-9692 or Beverly.Zimmermann@JuniperCommunities.com.
