Hospice Sets Programs

Hospice & Community Care and the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss will offer several programs, with some in person and some via Zoom. Registration is required, unless noted otherwise. Unless otherwise stated, readers may call the Pathways Center at 717-391-2413 or 800-924-7610 to register and, when relevant, to receive Zoom credentials.

Coping With the Loss of a Parent or Sibling is set for Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Zoom. Coping With the Loss of a Spouse or Companion will be held at the Pathways Center, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26, and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, as well as on Zoom from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3. Coping With the Loss of a Child (of any age) will be offered on Zoom from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, Oct. 27, Nov. 17, and Dec. 22.

GRASP (Grief Recovery After a Substance Passing) will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Oct. 19, Nov. 16, and Dec. 21, at the Pathways Center. This group is for individuals who have had a loved one die as a result of substance abuse or addiction. Preregistration is required for new attendees. Orientation for new volunteers will be offered at the Essa Flory Center, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14; Tuesday, Oct. 19; and Thursday, Oct. 21. A Newly Bereaved Program will be offered via Zoom, with two three-week sessions available: Wednesdays, Nov. 3 to 17, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and Tuesdays, Dec. 7 to 21, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The series will provide an overview of common grief responses and help attendees identify coping tools.

Living With Grief Since COVID-19, a prerecorded webinar designed to help professionals effectively respond to pandemic-related grief and bereavement needs, will be offered on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and Friday, Nov. 19, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. To register by Tuesday, Nov. 9, and Wednesday, Nov. 17, respectively, visit http://www.hospicecommunity.org and select Calendar of Events.

International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day will be observed at the Pathways Center from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 20. There will be a video presentation and discussion of "Life Journeys: Reclaiming Life After Loss," a local panel of survivors, and information on resources and supports. Coping With the Holidays sessions will be offered at the Pathways Center; registration must be made one week prior to the session. If sessions are unable to be held in person, they will be offered via Zoom, and updates will be available by calling the center or visiting http://www.pathwaysthroughgrief.org. The schedule is as follows: "Holiday Survival Guide," Tuesday, Nov. 16, 6:30 to 8 p.m.; "Holiday Survival Guide," Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2 to 3:30 p.m.; "Practicing Gratitude," Tuesday, Nov. 23, 6:30 to 8 p.m.; "Ways to Remember," Tuesday, Dec. 7, 6:30 to 8 p.m.; "Living for Today," Tuesday, Dec. 14, 6:30 to 8 p.m.; and "What Are the Gifts?" Tuesday, Dec. 21, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Light Up a Life Tree-Lighting Ceremony will be held at the Essa Flory Center on Wednesday, Dec. 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. To order a light to be placed on an evergreen tree in memory of a loved one, visit http://www.hospiceconnect.org/lights or call 717-295-3900. Proceeds will support patients and families facing end of life.

Man to Man: Grief's Toolbox, a monthly support group, will be offered via Zoom on Tuesday, Dec. 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Coping Kids and Teens, a six-week series, will be held at the Pathways Center on Thursdays, Jan. 13 to Feb. 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Families will gather together for a light supper. Children and teens will then meet in peer support groups, while adults will learn how to support grieving youths. Families will meet with a counselor prior to attending.
