Horn Farm Center Plans Beekeeping Program

Horn Farm Center, 4945 Horn Road, York, will host its Beekeeper Training Program starting on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m. The program is taught by Mark Gingrich, a professional beekeeper and owner of Gingrich Apiaries, and it will offer nine sessions, held monthly on Wednesday evenings.

Students will learn about the science, craft, and process of managing a hive at a residential scale. During three classroom sessions, the program will explore the essentials of honeybee biology, ecology, and preparations for the growing season. Then, from the spring through the fall, students will experience beekeeping hands-on by tending live apiaries at the Horn Farm Center. At the end of the program, students will have the option to take a colony home and enroll in a second year of the course, reinforcing class content while stewarding a hive independently. To learn more and register, visit http://www.hornfarmcenter.org/beekeeper-training/.The program has a fee. Spaces are limited, and early registration is encouraged. For more information, call 717-757-6441 or email education@hornfarmcenter.org.
