Honest Talk For Women

Group Meets Weekly At City Gate, Ephrata

Amanda Sensenig was aware that a men's group had been meeting at City Gate, 100 E. Main St., Ephrata, for about two years. She told her father that she wished there was a similar group for women. "When I was going through my teen years, I had struggles," recalled Sensenig. "No one would give me the answers I wanted."

To discover how to help women and teens in similar circumstances, Sensenig contacted Floyd Shirk, who created Main Point Men of Faith, which Sensenig had heard about. Unbeknownst to Sensenig, Shirk had been praying about the possibility of starting a group for women. After talking to Shirk, it was decided that Sensenig would form a group, and in late September 2022, Main Point for Women was born.

The meetings, which include live and videotaped speakers and Bible studies, are held each Tuesday, beginning with a meal, which lasts from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Sensenig then speaks and devotions are held. At 7 p.m., a speaker takes to the podium for an hour to give a testimony. Sometimes a video message is presented in lieu of a speaker.

The gatherings have attracted up to 10 women per session. "It's still small, but we are working on growing," said Sensenig, who added that the intergenerational interaction at the meeting is a plus. "There's something about having all ages, with the older ones able to help the younger ones," she said. "I wish there was something like this when I was younger," she commented.

Most important to Sensenig is that Main Point honestly addresses issues women face. Pointing to her own past experience, Sensenig said, "(When I was a teenager), I became angry with people who tried to help. The answers were always roundabout. I wanted straight, honest answers."
