Holiday events planned at Landis Valley

Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum will host its annual holiday bonfire on Friday, Dec. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. Landis Valley will serve hot chocolate and cookies, and the Lititz Moravian Trombone Club will provide music. The event is free of charge. Participants are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for donation to the Lancaster County Food Hub.

Additionally, two tours featuring the Belsnickel will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16. The Belsnickel Experience: Pennsylvania German Origins of Our Holiday Traditions Family Event will be held at 1 p.m., and Landis Valley Late Night with the Belsnickel, for people age 21 and up, will start at 7 p.m.

At both events, attendees may learn about Pennsylvania Dutch holiday and agricultural traditions, meet the Belsnickel, make a punched tin ornament, enjoy light refreshments and shop at the museum store. The family-friendly event will also include a reading of "The Pennsylvania Dutch Night Before Christmas," and Landis Valley Late Night with the Belsnickel will feature adult beverages.

The tours involve two hours of walking around the museum grounds, and attendees should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. They should also bring a flashlight if they are attending the evening tour. The events will be held rain, snow or shine.

Space is limited, and reservations are required by visiting http://www.landisvalleymuseum.org and looking in the events section. For the afternoon tour, children ages 3 to 7 will receive a discount on the admission fee. There is a fee per person for the evening event.
