Historical society to display photographs

The Hummelstown Area Historical Society invites members of the public to view its latest show, "Then and Now," at the History House, 32 W. Main St., Hummelstown. The grand opening of the show will take place on Sunday, March 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. The display will also be open during normal business hours on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. There is no charge for admission.

The show includes 100 vintage photographs of Hummelstown streets and properties paired with current photographs of the same views. The vintage photos were selected from the historical society's archives. Many of the vintage photographs were taken by Sun publisher Rich Hartwell and former historical society president Phil Rainey. Others came from celebratory publications, family albums, and newspapers. The current photographs were taken by Dante Neely and Wade Seibert.

Some of the photographs feature the Warwick Hotel, with the earliest one dated 1900; three gas stations on Main Street; the Swatara Creek covered bridge and the 1922 bridge that replaced it; and the Parish House.

Anyone who would like to add old photographs to the show may bring the photographs to the society office.
