Hiking Club Posts Outings

The York Hiking Club will host four hikes in August. For details, visit http://www.yorkhikingclub.com. In the case of inclement weather, contact the hike leader for updates.

A group will walk 3 miles on the Hollow Creek Greenway on Saturday, Aug. 13, departing at 6 p.m. To participate, meet at the Hollow Creek Greenway parking lot on Valley Road just past the turn to Nixon Park. Hike leaders Sarah and Lou Tateosian may be reached at 717-741-2652.

On Sunday, Aug. 21, hikers will traverse a 4 mile section of the Torrey C. Brown rail trail, traveling south from Parkton, Md. The trail is made of packed gravel, and hikers may enjoy flowers, wildlife, and a creek running beside the trail. To participate, meet at York County School of Technology, 2179 S. A 10-mile hike from Glen Rock to New Freedom and back on the rail trail will be offered on Saturday, Aug. 27. The trail offers shade and lots to see. Participants should bring good shoes, water, and a snack. At New Freedom - 5 miles into the outing - the group will rest at the Rail Trail Cafe. Participants should meet at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock, 32 Main St. Hike leaders Regina and George Haritos may be contacted at 717-417-6191 or 717-332-2221.
