Hiking Club Posts Events

The York Hiking Club will host three hikes in the second half of May. Hikers are encouraged to monitor the weather forecast and dress appropriately. For details, visit http://www.yorkhikingclub.com.

A 7- to 8-mile lollipop hike on Sunday, May 15, will start at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, follow the Appalachian Trail (AT) to Toms Shelter, and return via Sunset Rocks Trail. The moderate hike will offer some rock scrambling, views, and rocky, steep hills. There may be sightings of timber rattlesnakes as well. Hikers should wear hiking boots, and they are encouraged to bring poles, water, and snacks. Hikers will meet near the bathrooms at Pine Grove State Park at 8:50 a.m. Contact Kim Shue at 717-688-5142 for information and carpooling details.

After the hike on May 15, a picnic with former hike members Pat and Neal, who are visiting from Colorado, will be held. York Hiking Club members who do not wish to hike but want to visit with Pat and Neal may meet at Pine Grove around 1 p.m. Reservations for the picnic are required by Thursday, May 12, by contacting Kim Herbst at 717-887-4462 or kberly124@comcast.net so she can coordinate food dishes.

A 3-mile hike from Shanks Mare to Hooper farm will be held on Sunday, May 22. The hike includes Devils Hole, Native Lands, and one stream crossing. A leisurely 4-mile hike on Sunday, May 29, will travel the Heritage Rail Trail. Hikers will meet at the Centerville/Glen Rock parking lot, 3439 Seven Valleys Road, Glen Rock, to depart at 1 p.m. For details, contact Bob and Julie Falsetti at 717-854-3437 or juliafalsetti@comcast.net.
