Hershey Library Posts Calendar

Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Ave., Hershey, will offer programs for children and adults. Readers may visit the library's Events Calendar at http://www.hersheylibrary.org for registration and program information. All programs are virtual except when indicated. Visitors should practice safe social distancing and wear a mask or face covering at the library for all indoor and outdoor events. The library will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31.

An outdoor Fused Glass Class will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 1. The program is suitable for teens and adults. There is a cost per project.

Mother's Day Collage will be held from 2 to 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 2. The virtual art program will offer a session for children ages 2 to 6 and a session for children age 6 and older.

Star Wars Trivia for the entire family will run from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, on Facebook Live. Participants should visit http://www.facebook.com/hersheypubliclibrary and Zoom.

The Art of Truth: A Writing Class on Creative Nonfiction with Laura English will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, May 8 to June 12. The classes will be held on Google Meet. Participants may choose to write memoir, essay, biography, epistle, lyric essay, meditation, or a combination of several forms. There is a class fee.

The Virtual LEGO Club will meet from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, May 5 and 19. Budding architects and LEGO fanatics age 6 and older are welcome to join LEGO Club.

An author talk with Lisa Wingate will be offered from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8. Wingate is the author of the No. 1 New York Times bestseller "Before We Were Yours."

Piano Night in the Reading Garden will be held outdoors from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 21. The program is open to any piano performer age 9 or older who wishes to share their talent and music with the community. Performers are welcome to sing as well as play the piano. Individuals interested in performing may contact Aly Tran and Rita Smith at programs@hersheylibrary.org. Registration is not required for the public to attend.

Carry & Craft: Cement Vase Edition will take place from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 22. Library staff will walk attendees through how to make a vase out of old towels and cement on the library's YouTube programming channel. After registering, participants may pick up their kit from the library.

A Fern Kokedama and Macrame Hanger Workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on May 22. Attendees will join Knotting Tides and Terrarium Therapy for a collaboration in an outdoor program. Participants will learn about ferns and the proper way to care for them along with a tutorial to create a macrame hanger to host a kokedama, a traditional Japanese art form where a ball of soil is covered in moss to host a plant. There is a fee.

A community blood drive will take place at the library on Tuesday, May 25. Donors will be received from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Donors may schedule an appointment with the Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank (CPBB) at 800-771-0059. Walk-ins may have to wait if there are appointments at that time. Donors should bring identification.
