Group to sell plants and gardening items

The Lancaster County Master Gardeners' Garden Shed area will again be a feature during the group's annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 3, at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster.

When gardeners move or downsize, they often have garden-related items they would like to share with others who will use them, organizers noted. The Garden Shed offers a way of recycling tools, books, and other gardening items for many years. Master Gardener volunteers accept items, clean and repair them, and sell them to help support year-round educational programs.

In-demand items include gently used garden-related tools - both hand tools and power tools - in good working order. Master Gardeners noted that they will not accept garden herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, or chemicals, or plastic pots. Organizers will only accept items that are suitable for resale.

To schedule a donation pickup, call 717-980-4997. Gardeners also may bring donations to a community donation day from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the Farm and Home Center.

Penn State Extension's Master Gardener program has served Lancaster County since 1988. Approximately 140 volunteers educate the public on sustainable horticulture and environmental stewardship through a garden hotline, webinars, classes, and demonstration gardens.
