Grissinger, Knier Honored

Cody Grissinger and Madison Knier have been selected as the Seniors of the Month for February at Manheim Central High School. The Manheim Women's Club sponsors the Girls of the Month, and the Rotary Club of Manheim sponsors the Boys of the Month. Seniors of the Month are chosen by the professional staff of the high school based on academic achievement, character, and involvement within the school and community.

Cody, 17, is the son of the late Jerry and Karen Grissinger of Mount Joy. His guardians are Chris and Shannon Gornik of Manheim. He is involved with the MC Interact Club. Outside school, he is a member of UMC of Manheim, where he helps with the Wednesday suppers. With the church, he also spent a week refurbishing a home in Tennessee through the Appalachian Service Project (ASP). He recently joined the Lancaster Floorball Club. Cody hopes to have a career in sports broadcasting.

Madison, 18, is the daughter of John and Judi Knier of Lititz. She has received distinguished honors every marking period in high school and is historian of the Spanish Club and a member of National Honor Society.

Madison is captain of the varsity basketball, varsity volleyball, and varsity track and field teams. In basketball, she was an All-State selection in 2021 and 2022, a two-time Section MVP, a three-time L-L League First Team All-Star, and a 1,000-point scorer. In volleyball, she was an All-State selection in 2021, a two-time District All-Star, and a four-time L-L League All-Star. On the track and field team, she qualified for the State Meet twice and medaled in javelin, qualified for the District Meet twice, set two school records, and was a two-time Manheim Central field team MVP. She also participated in varsity cheerleading for two years and was the school mascot. Outside school, she has played club basketball with the AAU Under Armour and Nike EYBL National Teams.

In the community, Madison has coached children at the Manheim Central youth basketball camps, helped to officiate youth basketball leagues, and volunteered with Feed My Starving Children. Recently, through Going Beyond day, she served at Jubilee Ministries.

Madison plans to attend college to pursue a degree in psychology and participate in collegiate athletics. She hopes to obtain a master's degree in sports psychology.
