The Humanities Grand Rounds History of Medicine Lecture at Penn State School of Medicine will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. Moya Bailey, Ph.D., will discuss "Race, Gender, and Region in the Flexner Report." Bailey is a professor at Northeastern University.

Bailey will highlight the reconceptualization of Southern medical students and their institutions that resulted from the Flexner Report in 1910. Emory School of Medicine was formed in the wake of the report, and she will explore its creation and student population with special attention to the integration of female and black students in medical schools nationally.

Bailey is an MLK Visiting Scholar at MIT for the 2020-21 academic year.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, including the Zoom link, readers may contact Lori Ricard at lricard@pennstatehealth.psu.edu.
