Glossbrenner Church will hold Family Christmas Night

The members of Glossbrenner United Methodist Church want Christmas to be a time of love, joy and community for everyone, said Jessica Rockey, children and youth director.

"The holidays can be very expensive," she stated. "They also can be difficult as a lot of us are going through trials or grieving in some way. So, I encourage you whether you have children or it's just you, come out and meet some good people, have a cup of hot chocolate and get into the Christmas spirit with us."

Glossbrenner United Methodistt Church will hold a Family Christmas Night on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 713 Church St., Mount Joy.

"Everything is absolutely free," Rockey said. "Please come and enjoy everything with us."

The event will feature crafts, food and more. "This will be a wonderful time of fellowship, food and crafts for all ages and skill levels. Homemade crafts make the best memorable decorations year after year or they make great gifts," Rockey shared, adding that a gift-wrapping and card-making station will also be on-site. People are invited to pose in front of a Christmas backdrop for holiday photos as well. "A family photo with a Christmas backdrop and Christmas picture frame is always fun to look back over the years and see how the kids have grown every Christmas," Rockey said.

And if all that crafting and creativity have worked up your appetite, a variety of food options will be offered at the event. "We will have delicious beef barbecue sandwiches, popcorn, decorate your own cookie and a hot chocolate bar," she noted.

Rockey emphasized that the event may be called "family" night, but it's for everyone. "Toddler to senior citizens can find enjoyment in this event," she said. "Come hang the entire two hours or just drop in between 5 and 7. We would love to have you."

She also invites people to the church's Candlelight Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24. "We have something for all ages, and our doors are open to everyone, regardless of where you are at on your faith journey," she stated.

Holding events like the Family Christmas Night helps the congregation fulfill its goal of connecting with the community, Rockey said.

"We enjoy being a light to our community in these difficult times and dark times going on in the world," she commented. "We enjoy giving back. God has blessed us so much in many ways; we want to be a blessing to others so they can feel and know Christ's love as well."
