Zoie Roppelt, executive vice president/co-founder, talked about the organization and its participation in Give Local York, a countywide day of fundraising set for May 1:
What is the mission of Sparrow Place?
Sparrow Place is a faith-based nonprofit determined to open a long-term therapeutic residential program in York County, where women survivors of sex trafficking and prostitution can heal and reclaim their lives. Our program will be modeled after the highly successful residential recovery model of Thistle Farms, Tenn., and will offer health care, counseling, education, and - through the creation and running of a social enterprise - job skills and employment.
Why is the organization excited to participate in Give Local York this year?
We are looking forward to Give Local York 2020 because it offers a unique opportunity to educate about Sparrow Place on a widespread platform. Even more importantly, it allows us to drive the message that domestic human trafficking is taking place here in York and its surrounding counties. Every person reading or hearing this message needs to learn how to prevent, recognize, and report it by calling 888-373-7888.
