State Rep. Mark M. Gillen recently trained with Pittsburgh firefighters at the Allegheny County Fire Academy. The training was a hands-on exercise in full turnout gear and air pack, and one of the exercises required crawling on hands and knees in a smoke-filled room while attempting to extract a dummy serving as a fire victim.

Gillen is a chairman of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives' Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness committee.
