GEARS Sets Activities

GEARS will offer activities to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person cost, with a discounted rate for residents. To register or for more information, visit http://www.getintogears.org or call 717-367-0355.

A Girls' Middle School Volleyball Program will be offered, with participants competing in a middle school volleyball league. Teams are for girls in grades five to six and seven to eight. The program will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from Aug. 11 to Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the gym at Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown. League play will be on Mondays in September, with match times between 6 and 8 p.m. The fee includes the league fee, league tournaments, uniforms, and AAU insurance.

A representative of M&T Bank will present a retirement workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Attendees will examine the factors to consider when planning retirement, learn to estimate their retirement expenses, identify saving and planning strategies that may allow them to maximize their savings at any age, compare the types of retirement plans available to them, and set goals for their retirement savings. The class is free and open to people age 18 and up. Preregistration is required.

GEARS will hold its 29th annual four-person scramble golf tournament, sponsored by R.E. Pierson Materials and Central Penn Propane, on Friday, Oct. 3, at the Dauphin Highlands Golf Course, 650 S. Harrisburg St., Harrisburg. The tournament will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee per person includes green fees, use of a cart, dinner, and prizes.

How to Finally Clear Your Clutter will be held on Mondays, July 28, Aug. 4, and Aug. 11, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. This class will aim to provide an understanding of different forms of clutter, how habits form over time, effective methods to tackle clutter, and avenues to disperse unneeded belongings. The program will be led by Kristen Patterson, owner of Sorted & Staged Home Enhancement Services.
