GEARS Posts Schedule

GEARS will offer several activities. Unless otherwise noted, separate fees have been set for GEARS members and for nonmembers. Registration and details are available at http://www.getintogears.org or by calling 717-367-0355.

Intro to Kayaking, complete with a two-hour guided paddle on the Susquehanna River, will be offered on Saturday, Sept. 11, from noon to 2 p.m. at Chickies Rock Outfitters, 1028 River Road, Columbia. The program is for people age 12 and up, and the registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 3. Separate fees have been set for a single kayak and for a tandem kayak.

Hatha Flow Yoga will be taught by registered yoga teacher Charla Lorenzen to people age 14 and up via Zoom on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m. from Wednesday, Sept. 8, to Monday, Dec. 20. No experience is necessary. People may attend one or more classes per week.

A Zumba dance fitness class for people age 14 and up will be held from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 8 to Dec. 8, at Fighting Dragons, 101 E. Cherry St., Elizabethtown. There will not be a class on Nov. 24.

POUND, a cardio jam session inspired by playing the drums, will be taught by certified instructor Courtney Lesnick to people age 14 and up on Fridays, Sept. 10 to Dec. 10, from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at Fighting Dragons. There will not be a class on Dec. 17. Attendees should bring a yoga mat.

Three dance classes will be held at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown, on Thursdays, Sept. 9 to Nov. 11. There will be no classes on Sept. 30. The available activities will be Ballet 1 from 6:15 to 7 p.m., Jazz 1 from 7:15 to 8 p.m., and Tap 1 from 8:15 to 9 p.m. The classes will be taught by Hope McQuoid and Victoria.

GEARS Recreation will host a Doubles and Singles Tennis Tournament over Labor Day weekend at the tennis courts at Elizabethtown Area High School, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. Doubles teams will compete on Saturday, Sept. 4, and singles will play on Monday, Sept. 6. Divisions will be broken down by age and/or skill level. Prizes will be awarded for each division. Separate fees have been set for singles and for doubles teams.

One-hour guided trail rides will take place at Ironstone Ranch, 1 Hollinger Lane, Elizabethtown, on the following Wednesdays: Sept. 1 at 5 p.m., Sept. 22 at 5 p.m., Oct. 13 at 5 p.m., and Nov. 3 at 4:45 p.m. The horses are trained to work with riders who have little or no experience. For safety reasons, trotting or galloping will not be allowed. All children must be 8 or older, and there is a strict weight limit of 225 pounds.

Zumba Gold will take place on Wednesdays, Sept. 1 to Nov. 17, from 6:15 to 7 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center. There will be no classes on Sept. 22 and Oct. 13. This program is geared to deconditioned people or beginner exercisers and active older adults. Judy McMillen will instruct.

A Strictly Skills Basketball Clinic for boys and girls in grades four to six will be held immediately after school at Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown. Play will be on Tuesdays, Sept. 7 to Oct. 12, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Visit http://www.StrictlySkills.com for details.

Discover Dance will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 7 to Nov. 9, from 6:15 to 7 p.m. for children ages 3 to 4 and from 7:15 to 8 p.m. for children ages 5 and 6. The class will be held at the GEARS Community Center.
