Garden Spot Plans Homecoming Celebration

On Friday, Oct. 8, Garden Spot High School (GSHS) will hold its annual homecoming celebration. The 2021 homecoming queen and king will be crowned during halftime of the varsity football game against Lebanon High School, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the school stadium, 669 E. Main St., New Holland.

The spring 2021 queen, Paula Gauthier, or principal Matt Sanger will crown the fall 2021 queen at the conclusion of the ceremony. The homecoming king will be crowned during the Challenge of the Classes on Oct. 8.

The 2021 homecoming queen candidates are Mikaela Bernek, Ainslee Binkley, Jewel Boninu, Bryna Kelly, and Lejla Hamzic. The homecoming king candidates are Jack Bruggeman, Tanner Donahue, William Fithian, Adam Hahn, and Christopher Wehn.

Michaela Bernek is the daughter of Michael and Rebecca Bernek of Hinkletown. At school, Mikaela is treasurer of National Honor Society (NHS), a member of the Health Council, and captain of the girls' lacrosse team. Outside school, she volunteers with the middle school girls' lacrosse team. Following graduation, she plans to take a gap year before studying business and mental health. She will be escorted to the game by her brother Joseph Bernek.

Ainslee Binkley is the daughter of Larry and Chrissy Binkley of New Holland. At school, she takes part in marching band, concert band, and chorus, and she is a member of the girls' volleyball team. Outside school, she volunteers at New Holland Church of the Nazarene. Following graduation, she plans to attend college to study environmental science. She will be escorted to the game by Tanner Donahue.

Jewel Boninu is the daughter of Steven and Jennifer Boninu of Narvon. At school, Jewel is vice president of the Class of 2022, a Health Council representative, historian for NHS, and captain of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the girls' volleyball team. Outside school, she volunteers as a huddle leader at Christian Athletes Power Camp, and she is a member of the Central Pennsylvania Volleyball Club. Following graduation, she plans to attend West Chester University with the goal of obtaining a master's degree in athletic training in hopes of becoming a university or high school athletic trainer. She will be escorted to the game by her father.

Bryna Kelly is the daughter of Shawn Kelly of East Earl and Rachel Kostecki of New Holland. At school, she is a member of marching band, concert band, and chorus as well as the girls' field hockey and track and field teams. Outside school, she volunteers to teach swim lessons at the New Holland pool, where she is a member of the swim team. Following graduation, she plans to attend college to major in interior design and to run track. She will be escorted to the game by Christopher Wehn.

Lejla Hamzic is the daughter of Edin Hamzic of New Holland and the late Emina Hamzic. At school, she is president of Student Council and NHS, and she is a drum major with the marching band and a member of the concert band. She is also a cheerleader. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy or a master's in radiology. She will be escorted to the game by her father.

Jack Bruggeman is the son of Trey Bruggeman and Nicol Grim of New Holland. At school, Jack is a member of NHS and the Technology Student Association (TSA). He plays varsity soccer. Outside school, he is a member of Boy Scouts of America, with the Welsh Mountain Nature Preserve as the focus of his Eagle Scout project. He plays soccer with PA Classics. Following graduation, he plans to attend college to major in biology.

Tanner Donahue is the son of T.J. and Tammy Donahue of Narvon. At school, he is vice president of NHS and a member of the lacrosse and rifle teams. Outside school, he volunteers at Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, where he is a member of youth group. Following graduation, he plans to earn a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity or forensic investigation with the hope of continuing his education in pursuit of a career in the FBI or Secret Service.

William Fithian is the son of Bill and Renee Fithian of Narvon. At school, he is a member of Student Council and NHS, and he takes part in band, chorus, and Garden Spot Performing Arts. Outside school, he volunteers at the CrossNet Food and Nutrition Center. Following graduation, he plans to attend college in pursuit of a degree in broadcast journalism.

Adam Hahn is the son of Bryan and Luanne Hahn of Narvon. At school, he is a member of the co-op program and the wrestling team. Outside school, he is a member of the Christian Fellowship Church youth group. Following graduation, he plans to enter the workforce with the goal of eventually starting his own car restoration business.

Christopher Wehn is the son of Mike and Rachael Wehn of Bowmansville. At school, he is a member of the marching band, concert band, chorus, and vocal ensemble, and he plays soccer. Outside school, he is a volunteer referee with Upward Basketball. Following graduation, he plans to attend college to become an elementary school teacher.
