Mennonite Life will offer a Winter Workshop exploring the Pennsylvania German art of fraktur from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, in the Community Room of Mennonite Life, 2215 Millstream Road, Lancaster.

Local artists Lynn Sommer and Jim King will lead the class. Sommer will share a variety of fraktur sample lettering and Pennsylvania German folk art designs, such as angels, tulips, and birds, for participants to select. Choosing from these, each participant will create his or her own fraktur sampler booklet measurement for enjoyment and creative reference. King will demonstrate the grain painting techniques often used to make a decorative frame for fraktur.
