Food Trucks Lure Locals to Bowmansville Fire Co.

Food trucks are not taking over Lancaster County's al fresco, culinary landscape. It just seems that way.

This so-called food truck phenomenon has reached Bowmansville, and the Bowmansville Fire Company is putting its own unique spin on the fad. The local community fire company's upcoming event promises to be both delicious and festive.

"It's a family-friendly community event with great food," said Denise Crissup, assistant secretary for the Bowmansville Fire Company. "Food Truck Friday is a fundraiser and an opportunity to bring the community together. We had wonderful feedback that everyone really enjoyed coming together and chatting with neighbors. It's also a great time for the community to learn about the fire company. The children really enjoy checking out the fire trucks."

The Bowmansville Fire Company's Food Truck Fridays are back by popular demand. The initial installment of this year's event will be staged from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 5, at the firehouse, 146 W. Maple Grove Road, Bowmansville.

Bowmansville Fire Company will conduct Food Truck Fridays during the same time frame on Friday, July 10; on Friday, Aug. 7; and on Friday, Sept. 11.

"The Bowmansville Fire Company is committed to serving our community by providing 24/7 emergency fire and rescue services, protecting lives and property and supporting public safety whenever our residents need us most," said Crissup. "Our department plays an essential role in maintaining emergency apparatus and equipment, training firefighters and ensuring the safety and well-being of our community and visitors. We also participate in community outreach programs, including visiting local schools to provide fire prevention and safety education."

Headlining the June 5 edition of Food Truck Fridays will be Castaneda's Mexican Food of downtown Denver; J.R.'s Brisket from Bowmansville/Denver; Lickity Split Ice Cream of New Holland; and Farmhouse Stickys from East Earl. The Bowmansville Fire Company will also serve its own chicken fingers and french fries.

Dining areas will be available in the fire company's engine room and meeting room. Patrons can also order items for takeout.

About 500 diners attended last year's inaugural offering of Food Truck Fridays.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Bowmansville Fire Company and go toward upgrading the station's radio equipment, apparatus, facilities and fire gear, as well as costs incurred from testing hoses and ladders.

As part of its fundraising efforts, the Bowmansville Fire Company also conducts an annual fund drive, a winter feast in January, periodic sub and pulled pork sales, scrapbooking events, a spring showcase featuring live entertainment, and dine-and-donateevenings at local restaurants.

"The community's support makes a difference," said Crissup.

Bowmansville is a volunteer fire company staffed by 60 members - firefighters, junior firefighters, fire police officers and support members. In 2025, Bowmansville Fire Company responded to 202 calls, mostly fires and vehicle accidents.
