First Friday program to feature dance, visual art

The Arts at Millersville University will join Lancaster city's First Friday celebrations with We the People First Friday on Friday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the salon, Lancaster-based contemporary dance company Luna Dance will present a program intended to inspire a renewed energy and appreciation for life. The name Luna derives from artistic director Emmanuel's Filipino roots, which he hopes to honor through a contemporary dance company bearing that name.

In the Regitz Gallery from 6 to 8 p.m., a reception will celebrate the opening of the exhibit "Hearing of the Art" by Lancaster-based artist Abner Gonzalez. A self-employed, lifelong artist, Gonzalez learned the basics from his father and has never stopped building upon that foundation, having completed more than 20 murals in his lifetime. He aims to create pieces that capture both the eye and the heart of the observer using pencil, charcoal, and acrylic. The exhibit will be on display until Friday, Aug. 30.

Every First Friday, Millersville University's Ware Center hosts community-centered performances and exhibits that represent the great mosaic of Lancaster and beyond with diverse genres. All First Friday events are free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
