First Back-to-School Bash planned

The autumn celebrations held at Faith Evangelical Congregational Church have been evolving over the last few years. "(Originally), we did Trunk or Treat (in October)," said Heather Leicy, who has been helping to organize the event for several years. For September 2022, the church switched to a Fall Fest, including food and games for children and adults.

"Now (we will hold) a Back-to-School Bash instead," said Leicy. The bash will be held at the church, 2124 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster, on Sunday, Aug. 6, from 2 to 7 p.m. From 2 to 5 p.m., games will be held and school supplies will be given away. From 5 to 7 p.m., a youth concert, featuring area artists, will be offered along with more free school supplies.

Leicy noted that afternoon games will include a sack race, a spoon race, and a whoopie pie eating contest. "Last year, that was great," said fellow organizer Michelle Shertzer, who added that a tractor ride would be part of the fun.

The concert portion of the event is expected to include a variety of musical entertainment. A magician will perform from the stage and also walk around the grounds doing illusions.

Free food will be available throughout the afternoon and evening.

Local organizations that will have display tables at the bash will include Homes of Hope, SEEDS, and Conestoga Valley Christian Community Services, among others.

Church members are busy collecting pens, notebooks, and other items to give away. "Kids will get a goodie bag of school supplies to take home," said Leicy.

The bash will be held rain or shine, and families located in the Conestoga Valley School District are welcome to attend. Organizers ask that attendees refrain from bringing pets. Readers who have questions may call the church at 717-393-5345.
