Fall Bazaar will feature treasures and bargains

You're invited to go treasure hunting at Maytown Reformed United Church of Christ. The church, located at 11 E. Elizabeth St., will hold its annual Fall Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"You never know what you're going to find," said event chair Chrisie Emswiler. "Somebody's junk is another person's treasure. There's treasure to be found here."

The bazaar will feature tables set up both inside and outside the church, depending on the weather.

"We'll have toys, glassware, books, stuffed animals, household items, baby items," Emswiler noted. "We don't have clothing, but we'll have hats and linens. We'll have some Christmas stuff."

Free coffee and doughnuts will also be available during the event.

"We will also have at least three (giveaway) baskets," she said. "The church is putting together a Christmas basket with things like wrapping paper, bows, baking items for Christmas cookies. Someone else donated a light-up birdhouse, so we'll give that away. And you do not need to be present to win."

Proceeds from the Fall Bazaar are used by the church to support various missions and activities.

"We have a prayer blanket ministry," Emswiler shared. "We have a church member who makes blankets, and she prays over every knot that she puts in that blanket, and then the whole church will pray over the blanket. Then the blanket goes to someone who needs it who is in the hospital or sick or recently experienced a loss."

She encourages everyone to come to the bazaar to hunt for a bargain. "Everything is priced to sell, and if you don't like a price, make an offer," she stated. "Starting at 1 p.m., most things will be marked down to half price."

Maytown Reformed Church holds worship services on Sundays at 10 a.m., both in person and on Zoom. Events like the bazaar help the church continue to operate even though the congregation is small.

"We are a small church, but we are mighty," Emswiler said. "We have a wonderful pastor, and everyone is very inviting. They include everybody, and it's just a comfortable church."

Donations are still being accepted for the bazaar and will be taken through Monday, Oct. 16. To make a donation, call or text Emswiler at 717-468-6601.
