West Lampeter Fair has announced four baking contests. The fair will run from Wednesday to Friday, Sept. 22 to 24, and exhibits for these four contests will be received on Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 1 to 9 p.m.

Local residents may enter the 33rd annual Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Baking Contest. This competition is sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs.

Youths may enter the PA Preferred Junior Baking Cookies, Brownies, and Bars Contest, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's PA Preferred program and coordinated by the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs. The contest is open to individual amateur bakers age 8 through 18 who are residents of Pennsylvania. Each entry must include two PA Preferred ingredients; a comprehensive list of products is available at http://www.papreferred.com.

The Homemade Chocolate Cake Contest, sponsored by The Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs, is open to individual amateur bakers who are Pennsylvania residents. Each entry must be a layered chocolate cake made from scratch, with frosting that is also made from scratch. The cake recipe must feature chocolate or cocoa as a main ingredient.

The West Lampeter Fair will also include the 17th annual Incredible Angel Food Cake Contest, sponsored by Pennsylvania Egg Farmers and the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs. Entrants may not have won first place in this Angel Food Cake Contest at any other fair in 2021. Cash prizes will be awarded for first through third places. When entering a cake, which must be made from scratch, bakers must also submit the recipe. Pennsylvania produced and packed eggs are requested to be used, if possible, and bakers should look for the PEQAP or Pennsylvania designation on the carton.

These four contests are preliminary competitions that lead to the selection of the final winner in each contest in January at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. Each winner at the farm show will receive a cash grand prize.
