Exhibit to feature items from the ocean

The North Museum of Nature and Science, 400 College Ave., Lancaster, recently opened an exhibit titled "Shallow Seas."

The exhibit showcases specimens of sea life, shells, and plants from the more than 250,000 objects in the North Museum's collection. These items depict life that is present in the Caribbean Sea, the coastal Atlantic Ocean, and the Arctic Ocean, and how each has developed traits to survive and sometimes thrive in its environment. The exhibit includes items that have not been displayed since the 1960s, and it is the first exhibit to be fully curated from North Museum's collections.

Visitors may lend their creative touch to a collaborative artwork project by coloring pictures of underwater life and adding them to a depiction of a coral reef.

The exhibit is self-directed through signage and bold graphics, which are presented in both English and Spanish. "Shallow Seas" will remain a main exhibit of the North Museum through May 31, 2025.

Now in its 72nd year, the North Museum impacts thousands of local students and their families annually through its education initiatives in the museum, in the community, and at home. Programs include field trips, early childhood education programs, summer camps, STEM Sisters, the Science and Engineering Fair for middle and high school students, and many other programs designed to create access to free and reduced-cost STEM learning opportunities and to strengthen the foundation of youths in the Lancaster community and beyond.
