Ephrata Cloister to offer tours

The Historic Ephrata Cloister, 632 W. Main St., Ephrata, will offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at the upper floors of the 1743 Sisters' House on Saturday, April 12. The tours, which are suitable for people age 12 and older, will provide an opportunity to explore unrestored areas of the site not typically open to the public. The tours will showcase much of the building's original 18th-century design and materials.

The tours will be offered at 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m., noon, and 1:15 p.m. Each will last approximately one hour, and the tours will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Group sizes are limited to 18 participants per tour. Tickets may be purchased at the door on the day of the event. There is a discount for Ephrata Cloister Associates members.

Attendees should note that accessing the upper floors requires navigating narrow and steep staircases. All participants must sign a waiver before the tour.

In addition to the upper floor tours, the Cloister will hold its regularly scheduled guided tours of the Sisters' House and Meetinghouse at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.
