Ephrata Cloister to offer Lantern Tours

Historic Ephrata Cloister, 632 W. Main St., Ephrata, will host Lantern Tours on Wednesday, Dec. 27, through Saturday, Dec. 30. Each day, tours will leave the visitor center every half hour, with the first tour at 6 p.m. and the last tour at 8 p.m.

When planning a trip nowadays, people often rely on Tripadvisor for reviews, but in the 1750s, it was word of mouth or written communication that people turned to for advice. During the Lantern Tours, attendees will hear reviews to learn what others thought of the founder of the Ephrata Cloister, Conrad Beissel, and his followers. The Ephrata Cloister Student Historians will bring these stories to life.

Attendance is limited, and advance tickets are required by calling 717-733-6600 or visiting https://bit.ly/3SMzBI4. There is a discount for seniors, students ages 6 to 17 and Ephrata Cloister Associates members. Admission is free for those 5 years of age and younger.
