ELANCO Library Posts Calendar

"Oceans of Possibilities: Summer Reading 2022" will run through Saturday, Aug. 13. The program is open to people of all ages and features a reading challenge with prizes for completing it, special events, and more. Weekly story time programs will be offered for young children. All programs will begin at 10:30 a.m. Preschool Story Time for children ages 3 to 6 will be held on Tuesdays. Toddler Thursdays will be held on Thursdays for children from birth to age 3.

Teen Tuesday Clubs will meet on Tuesdays from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Each week, youths age 12 and older will explore a special topic such as STEM, creative writing, arts and crafts, or book discussions.

Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion will gather on Monday, Aug. 1, at 2 p.m. for a book discussion about "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry" by Rachel Joyce. Sea Drum Circle will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. The program is designed for children age 6 and older and will feature a themed drum circle with fun, music, and rhythm.

Seashell Painting will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, for all individuals age 3 and older. Participants will use shells as a canvas, and materials will be provided.

Wonderful Watercolors will be offered on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. Attendees age 3 and older will experiment with watercolors alongside librarians and create an ocean-themed creation. Materials will be provided.

Hooks & Needles, a yarn craft club, will meet on Monday, Aug. 8, at 6:30 p.m. Knitters and crocheters will gather to work on projects. Beginners are welcome.

Phredd, the ukulele one-man band, will perform for the entire family at 2 p.m. on Aug. 8. The performance will include interaction, singing, hand motions, and creative play as this quirky singer-songwriter performs original tunes about pirates, electric tricycles, monkeys, and more.

"Quality Journalism: Oceans of Possibilities for Understanding and Civic Engagement" will be presented by local journalist Carole Deck on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. The program will cover her experiences as a journalist and contemporary challenges in journalism.

Sounds of the Ocean: Music and Movement will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 10. Open to children up to age 6 and their siblings, the program will feature singing, dancing, playing instruments, and chanting while exploring the sounds that make up language and the rhythms of whales, oceans, water, and marine life.

STEM Saturday will take place on Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. Families are welcome to drop into the Children's Library at any time during the program to enjoy fun STEM activities with library staff. People of all ages are welcome.
