ELANCO Library posts activities

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of events and programs to the community. Registration is not required unless noted. For details, visit http://www.elancolibrary.org or contact 717-354-0525 or adagostino@elancolibrary.org.

The library offers various activities regularly. In May, these will include Music and Movement, for kids birth to age 6 with a parent or other caregiver on Mondays at 10:30 a.m.; Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion on Monday, May 5, at 2 p.m.; Hooks and Needles Yarn Craft Club, for people of all ages who knit or crochet, on Monday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m.; and Lego Creation Club on Thursday, May 8, at 6 p.m.

The library will also offer Preschool Story Time, recommended for children ages 4 to 6, every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and Toddler Thursdays, recommended for children from birth to age 3, every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. The May theme will be "Dinosaurs." Siblings are welcome to join in.

Teen Tuesdays will be held on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. The program will provide crafts, games, snacks, and more for tweens and teens. The upcoming dates and themes are May 6, Button Making; May 13, Craft Day; May 20, Mental Health Day (Support Systems); and May 27, Pizza Party Hangout.

Children of all ages accompanied by a parent or other caregiver may read aloud to Pepper the Labrador retriever during Read with Pepper the Dog! on Saturday, May 3, at 2 p.m.

As part of the Longwood Gardens Community Read Program, the library will present a story time on Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m. Attendees will hear a reading of "The Extraordinary Gardener" by Sam Boughton followed by an opportunity to plant seeds to take home with them. Everyone who attends will have the chance to win four free passes to Longwood Gardens. A Homeschool Curriculum and Book Swap will take place on Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m. From 11 to 11:30 a.m., homeschooling families may drop off educational materials they no longer need and enjoy social time. Families may then tour the library to learn about resources the library offers to homeschoolers. They will also have the opportunity to select and take home books. This is a completely free exchange, without strings attached. Materials are contributed without condition, and people may take materials without charge or condition on a first-come, first-served basis.
