ELANCO Library plans activities

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of events and programs to the community. Registration is not required for events, unless indicated. Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion will meet on Monday, May 1, at 2 p.m. to talk about "Deacon King Kong" by James McBride.

Story time programs will include Preschool Story Time for children ages 3 to 6 on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Toddler Thursdays for children from birth to age 3 on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and siblings are welcome to come along, too.

Music & Movement, a musical story time, will be offered on Saturday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m. for children from birth to age 6 with a parent or caregiver.

Picture Books & Pup: Read Aloud With Pepper will be held on May 6 at 2 p.m. Children of all ages accompanied by a parent or other caregiver are invited to read aloud to Pepper, a Labrador retriever.

Hooks and Needles Yarn Craft Club will meet on Monday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. Knitters and crocheters are invited to attend, and beginners are welcome.

The Lego Creation Club will meet on Thursday, May 11, at 6 p.m. to build themed creations that will be displayed in the library.

The library will offer a Homeschool Curriculum and Book Swap on Saturday, May 20, at 11 a.m. Homeschooling families are invited to find new homes for books they no longer need, collect new educational materials, and connect with other home educators. From 11 to 11:45 a.m., participants are invited to drop off books and enjoy light refreshments and social time, and from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., participants may select and take home books. This will be a completely free exchange; materials will be contributed without conditions, and people will take materials without charge or conditions on a first-come, first-served basis.

ELANCO Library STEM Night: All From a Seed will take place on Wednesday, May 24, at 6 p.m. This program will follow the metamorphosis of seeds into the food people eat. Topics will be life cycles, growing requirements, plant anatomy, and recipes highlighted in the book choices for the 2023 Longwood Gardens Community Read: "Black Food: Stories, Art, and Recipes From Across the African Diaspora" by Bryant Terry; "The Comic Book Guide to Growing Food" by Joseph Tychonievich with illustrations by Liz Anna Kozik; and "Bring Me Some Apples and I'll Make You a Pie: A Story About Edna Lewis" by Robbin Gourley. The program is open to people of all ages. Participants will have the chance to win four free passes to Longwood Gardens.

Youths age 12 and up are invited to participate in Teen Tuesday Clubs every Tuesday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Each week, participants will discuss books or explore STEM, creative writing, or arts and crafts.
