Egerlander German Band To Play At Park

The Egerlander German Band will perform on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Eicher Arts Center, 409 Cocalico St., in Ephrata Borough's Grater Park.

The band, based in central Pennsylvania, plays polkas and other traditional German music. It gets its name from Egerland, a largely German-speaking area that was at one time part of the kingdom of Bohemia and is now part of the Czech Republic. Robert Musser of Palmyra, leader of the band, said the band was started in Pennsylvania more than 30 years ago by a musician from the Egerlander region.

The selections for the Oct. 3 concert are mostly instrumental only, but for some songs, the band members will sing and invite the audience to join with them in singing. A band member will introduce each song and provide some background information. Many of the titles of the songs the band will perform feature the word Egerlander.

Audience members are asked to wear face masks and bring folding chairs with them for outdoor seating.

Admission is free, but donations to the nonprofit Eicher Arts Center Inc. will be accepted. The performance is part of the nonprofit Eicher Arts Center's 2021 series of cultural and entertainment events.
