Eagle Scout receives recognition

Hershey Troop 65 welcomed a new Eagle Scout with a Court of Honor on Sept. 9 at Camp Catherine in Hershey.

Jude K. Petersen, a senior at Hershey High School, earned BSA's highest rank and most prestigious honor after years of service and experience, culminating in his Eagle Scout project. For his project, he designed and fabricated two pairs of concrete cornhole sets. Jude was able to use the sets to bless two beneficiaries, Derry Township Parks and Recreation and the Hershey High School special education program. Students in the special education program utilize the cornhole sets in their outdoor recreation courtyard; Jude also installed a tiled area there for accessibility.

Derry Township school board member Ericka Schmidt congratulated Jude and stated, "We are so lucky to have students who show such strong commitment to their fellow students and community."

State Rep. Tom Mehaffie attended the ceremony and presented Jude with a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as well as a flag flown over the Pennsylvania State Capitol.

Jude's plans after high school include attending college to study business with a hospitality focus and running the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles at the collegiate level.
