Durrett Receives Democratic Committee Scholarship

The Hempfield Area Democratic Committee has named Miles Durrett of Landisville as the recipient of its ninth annual Paul and Jan Wright Senior Scholarship. The award, given to a graduating high school senior in the Hempfield School District, recognizes a student who the committee believes best represents the next generation of Democratic leaders.

Miles is the son of Rebecca and Dominic Durrett of Landisville. He is a student at Lancaster Catholic High School, where he is involved in varsity tennis and cross-country and has served as a captain of both teams. He is a member of Student Council, National Honor Society, and Spanish National Honor Society.

In addition, Miles is an active member of the community and spends time volunteering with his church, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Lancaster. He recently won an ROTC scholarship and plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh. Following college, he plans to attend law school with the goal of becoming an attorney.

Miles will receive $500 to put toward college expenses. He and his parents were scheduled to be recognized at a meeting of the Hempfield Area Democratic Committee.

The scholarship is named for Paul and Jan Wright, two longtime, active Hempfield Area Democratic Committee members and residents of East Hempfield Township.
