It's kind of like when producers change a popular book into a successful movie. Only this time, a popular Bible studies session is being turned into a successful book.

Dona Fisher has enjoyed so much success with Change of Pace Bible studies that she's decided to share its message with a broader audience.

"My prayer when people read my book is that they will understand the beauty of reconciliation and the need to break the chain of generational sin," said Fisher.

This year's edition of the annual Change of Pace Bible studies will be held every Thursday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Lancaster Alliance Church, 210 Pitney Road, Lancaster. The Bible study sessions will begin on Thursday, Sept. 17, and run through Thursday, Nov. 19.

The Change of Pace Bible studies are free to attend, and a freewill offering will be accepted. Free child care will also be available at the church.

"We start our morning with a light breakfast and worship time singing together," said Fisher, a resident of Manheim Township. "Bible studies encourage us to read God's word, and reading enhances our wisdom with change of pace. We will also have a book swap this fall. Do you have a stack of books you have read and would enjoy sharing with others?"

This year's Change of Pace Bible studies will offer two courses of direction, "One in a Million" by Priscilla Shirer and "God Won't Leave You There" by Anne Graham Lotz and daughter Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright. Each of the studies contain video sections, which will be followed by small group discussions.

As many as 100 women from all over Lancaster County attend the nondenominational ladies' Bible study.

"They are ladies who (are) seeking to deepen their walk with the Lord," said Fisher, "and who enjoy the sisterhood of other ladies who will pray for them and encourage them."

The Change of Pace Bible studies and book are both based on Fisher's personal and sometimes tumultuous relationship with her mother. The content focuses on God's power, love and forgiveness through multiple generations, and the book tells some of the powerful personal stories of the women who found their ways to the Bible study over the last half century.

The book, "Change of Pace: Fifty Years of Shepherding God's Sheep With Love and Power," has already sold more than 4,000 copies and is currently in its second printing. The book can be purchase by searching for it on Amazon.

Now, Fisher is considering the possibility of turning her story and her experiences with Change of Pace into a novel.
