Dauphin County to host Greenways & Trails Summit

Dauphin County will host hundreds of nature preservation and outdoors enthusiasts in the fall of 2025 as the county shows off its recreational opportunities during the biennial Pennsylvania Greenways & Trails Summit.

Dauphin County Commissioners Chairman Mike Pries handed out Hershey's Chocolate as he made the announcement at this year's summit, which took place in Scranton.

"From the Capital Area Greenbelt to Wiconisco Creek Park, Dauphin County has something to offer to everyone who enjoys fresh air, passive or active recreation, and beautiful vistas. We're proud the Dauphin County Parks & Recreation Department can host the 2025 summit in conjunction with Visit Hershey & Harrisburg," Pries said.

"We are excited to have the Pennsylvania Greenways and Trails Summit coming to Harrisburg in 2025 and look forward to hosting this tremendous summit in the backyard of the state Capitol," said Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources secretary Cindy Adams Dunn. "Thank you to the host committee for its work to secure the summit. DCNR is pleased to support the efforts of the committee, and we look forward to sharing the capital region's natural spaces, history and culture with everyone who can attend."

For the summit, conservation professionals from across Pennsylvania will descend on Harrisburg to undergo training and networking related to greenways and trails. While in the area, they will be invited to enjoy businesses, art venues, museums, athletic events, and parks.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to show off what Dauphin County has to offer as we host people from across the state," Commissioner Chad Saylor said.

"This summit will not only showcase the county, but also provide an economic boon to many of our local businesses. It really is a win-win for Dauphin County," added Commissioner George P. Hartwick III.

Dauphin County Parks and Recreation director Anthea Stebbins described being selected for the 2025 Pennsylvania Greenways & Trails Summit as a significant win for the county.

"This summit is a beloved event by those working in conservation and recreation," she noted. "It's a unique learning experience that combines the benefits of professionally led workshops with the excitement of exploring new places and adventure of trying new things. The fact that we get to share the beautiful natural resources and green public open spaces in and around Dauphin County with those who are coming together to learn from each other is a win for everyone and an honor to be part of."

"Hosting this summit reinforces the enthusiasm we have for touting the many outdoor recreation opportunities in Dauphin County. We're excited to share our outdoor spaces and all the region's iconic attractions and experiences with summit attendees and with all guests who visit year round," said Mary Smith, president and CEO of Visit Hershey & Harrisburg.
