Datorre earns Girl Scout Gold Award

Catherine Datorre, a student at Elizabethtown Area High School and a member of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania, has earned the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Girl Scout Gold Award.

Datorre's project, "Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development Rubber Duckie Festival Games," focused on addressing the wear and tear on games used at the center's annual event while also making the games accessible to more children. She created games that children of all abilities could enjoy. Her project's mission will continue as the center uses the games annually for its festival attendees. Datorre devoted a minimum of 80 hours to plan, solve problems, and implement her ideas.

The Gold Award is the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn, and it is available to girls in high school who create sustainable change for a community or world issue.

The Gold Award process not only enables girls to help their communities, but also provides opportunities for them to grow as individuals. Girls build professional skills, earn scholarships, build their network, and, for those interested in serving their country, are able to enlist at a higher pay grade if they join the military.
