DARC Offers Programming For People Of All Ages

Everything from bus trips and art classes to cooking programs and music lessons is being offered by the Downingtown Area Recreation Consortium (DARC). A complete list of event dates, times and associated fees is available at http://www.darc.info.

A walk-in cornhole league is held on Wednesdays at Buffalo Wild Wings, 103 Quarry Road, Downingtown. Play begins at 7 p.m. on the outdoor patio.

A children's cooking program will be offered at Pickering Valley Elementary School in Chester Springs for students age 6 and over. "A Taste of Thanksgiving" will be the theme for the class on Monday, Nov. 15. A cookie exchange will take place on Monday, Dec. 13.

Weekly guitar, cello, bass and mandolin lessons are available with Rich McKenzie, a professional player/instructor who has more than 20 years of teaching experience. Piano lessons in either half-hour or one-hour sessions are also available from Matthew Bramucci, who has a bachelor of science degree in music education with a concentration in piano from Penn State, as well as his master's degree in music education from Towson University.

DARC will also offer a Meraki Run Club in November for youths ages 6 to 12. This empowerment program seeks to teach valuable life lessons through running. Open to people of all fitness levels, a typical class consists of a warmup; a lesson, which involves an activity or game; a running game; and a cool-down.

A new program being offered by DARC is an after-school art club that features painting instructors from Young Rembrandts. Classes are held at the DARC office, as well as at Shamona Creek and East Ward elementary schools in Downingtown.

Fitness classes offered by DARC include yoga, Basic Barre, Active Aging Fitness, tai chi, Faster Way to Weight Loss, Dance Party, Dance and Tone Fitness. New for this year are Salsa Mambo classes. Dance partners are not required.

Upcoming bus trips include one to the New York City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular on Wednesday, Dec. 8, and a New York City trip on Saturday, Dec. 11.
