Cruisin' in Christiana

Car Show To Benefit Christiana Fire Company

Cruisin' in Christiana, a car show that will feature vehicles of all makes and models, will be presented by the Christiana Fire Company on Saturday, June 14, on the grounds of the William P. Brinton House, 17 Green St., Christiana. Registration will open at 9 a.m., and the show will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This year marks the third annual Cruisin' in Christiana. The first event was held in the fall of 2023, but organizers decided to change the car show to spring to take advantage of more favorable weather conditions.

"Last year, we had almost 90 cars," said fire company member and event organizer Shawnie Betts. "We had cars, trucks and motorcycles."

She noted that there were also some unique vehicles featured. "There was a souped-up Amish buggy, a dragster and a train car, and we had some tractors as well," said Betts. "The fire company had their engine there until they got a call."

Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 65 entrants. There will also be trophies in various categories, including Best Classic, Modern, Motorcycle and Exotic.

"One of the volunteer fire company members is making the trophies," noted Betts. "The Best in Show will be in honor of my (late) dad, Terry Walker."

Music will be provided by The 45 Guy, who will spin vinyl records. Christiana Fire Company members will offer food for sale, including hot dogs, sausage sandwiches and hot pork sandwiches. Ice cream will be sold by Softie Whirl.

There will also be an opportunity for visitors to win prizes through a random drawing. Prizes will include two North Face tents, including a four-man tent and a two-man tent; four tickets to a Lancaster Stormers baseball game; and gift cards from local restaurants. The prize drawing will be held at 1:30 p.m.

A donation fee will be collected from vehicle owners. Spectators will be admitted free of charge.

Vehicle owners who register in advance by Friday, June 13, will receive a discount. Registration forms are available at the Christiana Borough office, 10 W. Slokom Ave. A link to register is also available at http://www.facebook.com/christianafirecompany in a post dated May 25. Same-day registrations will also be accepted.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the all-volunteer Christiana Fire Company, located at 214 S. Bridge St., Christiana. The fire company serves the communities of Christiana Borough, Atglen Borough and Sadsbury Township. It also provides support to neighboring companies.

More information about the fire company, including volunteer opportunities, is available at the previously mentioned Facebook page and http://www.christianafire.com.

In the event of rain, the car show will be held on Saturday, June 21.
