Cruise In To A Car Show

Cars and community will come together when the East Prospect Community Pride Committee presents a Car Show Cruise In on Saturday, July 2. The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the East Prospect baseball field at Lemon and West Ridge avenues.

There is no entry free or preregistration for the event, said organizer Barry Strayer. "It's open to anyone to just show up and show their car," he stated. "Everyone is invited." All types of vehicles may participate.

Strayer, a car enthusiast who owns a Ford truck, a Camaro and a Mustang Roush 427R, proposed the idea for the car show to the committee last year. "I've been going to car shows for years," he said, noting he organized a car show in 2000 in Valley Forge. "I thought it would be fun to do one here. It's an opportunity to bring a broad group of people together. There's a wide spectrum of people who are into cars."

Along with cars, the event will feature food trucks and DJ music provided by Karaoke by Miss "T." Admission is free, but donations will be accepted, with proceeds benefiting upkeep of the ballfield and playground on-site.

"If you're into cars, come out with your kids and have a fun afternoon," Strayer remarked. "It's an opportunity to meet up with your neighbors and enjoy our small community." If the event is well received, Strayer hopes to hold the car show annually.

East Prospect Community Pride holds events throughout the year, including outdoor movie nights, a Memorial Day parade, a town Christmas tree lighting and meals in the East Prospect Community Building. The committee will host fireworks beginning at dusk on July 2. The fireworks will be set off behind the Canadochly Valley Ambulance Club, 45 S. Main St., and will be visible from the baseball field.

There is no rain date for the car show. For more information, including weather updates, follow "East Prospect Community Pride" on Facebook or email epcarshow@gmail.com.
