Conference To Focus On Lewis, Tolkien

Square Halo Books has announced that its newest conference, "The Inklings: Creativity, Collaboration, and Community," will be held on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11 and 12, at the Trust Performing Arts Center, 37 N. Market St., Lancaster.

Inspired by the fellowship of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and their friends who gathered together to discuss their writings, the conference will reflect on these writers' works, while also providing creative and collaborative experiences for attendees throughout the weekend.

The weekend will include a variety of presenters, including writers, poets, actors, and artists. The keynote speaker will be Donald T. Williams, author of "Deeper Magic: The Theology Behind the Writings of C.S. Lewis," a Square Halo book.

Other presenters will include writers Matthew Dickerson, Shawn Smucker, Douglas McKelvey, Christy Purifoy, Hannah Eagleson, and Graham Dennis; poet Christine Perrin; illustrator John Hendrix; and director Bonnie Bosso. The conference will conclude with a concert by singer-songwriter Andrew Peterson.

The event will be held in collaboration with The Trust Performing Arts Center, The Row House, The Reverie Actors' Company, and Hearts & Minds Bookstore.

In partnership with the conference, The Square Halo Gallery, located in the Trust, is holding an Inklings-inspired art exhibition. Information about how to submit works for this show can be found on Facebook by searching for the event page, "The Inklings Art Invitational."

In Christian art, the square halo identified a living person presumed to be a saint. Square Halo Books is devoted to publishing works that provide materials useful for encouraging and equipping people in the Christian faith.

Tickets will be on sale until mid-January. To learn more about the conference, visit http://www.squarehalobooks.com.
