Concert To Spotlight Jazz Through The Years
"Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents Songs We Love" will come to the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster, on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Steinman Hall. The show, currently on a nationwide, 47-city tour, will spotlight Next-Generation jazz stars and iconic songs from the 1920s to the 1950s.
"Songs We Love" was first presented as the 2016 season opener at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. Under the musical direction of trumpeter Riley Mulherkar and featuring vocalists Vuyo Sotashe, Brianna Thomas, and Shenel Johns, the ensemble will present songs from Ma Rainey, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Judy Garland and others. The sextet accompanying Mulherkar and the vocalists includes trombonist Mariel Bildsten, saxophonist Lucas Pino, pianist Mathis Picard, bassist Barry Stephenson and drummer Taurien "TJ" Reddick.
