Concert to Celebrate Female Composers

The Lancaster Chamber Singers, an auditioned ensemble, will present its spring program, "To See the Beauty," at two venues. Concerts will take place on Saturday, May 2, at 3 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 517 N. Queen St., Lancaster, and on Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. at St. Edward's Episcopal Church, 2453 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster.

"To See the Beauty" celebrates female composers and songwriters and highlights the powerful emotions that music can evoke. Although women have been composing music for centuries, they were largely excluded from the Western canon until recent years. The concert selections range from 12th-century music by Hildegard von Bingen to pieces by more contemporary composers like Caroline Shaw, Ysaye Barnwell, and Dolly Parton.
