In connection with Hunger Action Month, September, the Giant Company - known locally as Giant and Martin's - will undertake several donation, volunteer, and awareness activities throughout the month to support neighbors facing food insecurity. Established by the Feeding America network of food banks in 2007, Hunger Action Month is a national campaign held every September to raise awareness and inspire action to end hunger in America.

The company announced it would donate $400,000 to 24 food bank partners across its four-state operating area. The donation recipients include Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Chester County Food Bank, Helping Harvest Food Bank, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, New Hope Ministries, SHARE Food Project, Sharing Excess, South Central Community Action Program, and Water Street Mission.

In addition, the Giant Company is partnering with America's Grow-A-Row farm for Pass the Produce: Hunger Action Month Food Relay, a monthlong initiative to deliver truckloads of fresh produce to regional food banks. It is also mobilizing team members to volunteer with food bank partners throughout the month, supporting distributions and assisting with packing, stocking, and organizing efforts.

Customers may help to support their local food banks by rounding up their purchase at checkout or by purchasing a "Giving Back Is in Our Roots" reusable bag, with a portion of the proceeds from each bag benefiting hunger relief efforts. Also, for every new follower of the Giant Company's LinkedIn page and every reaction or share of its Hunger Action Month kickoff post, the company will donate a set amount to Feeding America up to $5,000 total. Every new follower will result in at least 100 meals, secured by Feeding America on behalf of local partner food banks, provided for families in need.
