College plans percussion program, open houses

Lancaster Bible College | Capital Seminary & Graduate School (LBC | Capital) will host its annual weeklong intensive Total Percussion Seminar for students from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Tuesday, June 18, through Saturday, June 22. The event will take place in Good Shepherd Chapel on the college's Lancaster campus at 901 Eden Road.

The seminar is open to students in middle and high school and aims to help students strengthen their musicianship and fundamental percussion technique. Throughout the week, students will participate in clinics, master classes, percussion ensembles, and marching percussion exercises as they experience hands-on learning related to concert percussion, drum set, world drumming, music technology, and audition preparation. The event will end with a showcase performance open to the public at 2 p.m. on June 22.

The guest artists and clinicians featured at the seminar include Matthew Coley, Paul Murr, Adam Stec, and Robert Wilson.

Coley is an internationally acclaimed soloist and chamber musician, as well as the founder and executive/co-artistic director of Heartland Marimba. He is also the executive director and curator at the Center for Mallet Percussion Research at Kutztown University. He has performed in more than 40 states and 10 countries and as a soloist with organizations throughout the U.S. and abroad.

He is also a faculty member at Millersville University, teaching applied percussion, and is an active freelance percussionist. He has a diverse performing and recording career, working as a percussionist with the Allegro Orchestra in Lancaster and as a drum set artist with Jeffrey Gaines, Jackie Evancho, Fauna Flora, Imitation #9, and numerous singer-songwriters from the mid-Atlantic region. A proponent of new music, Murr held the percussion duties with the award-winning NakedEye Ensemble through 2017.

Stec is the owner of Drums Etc./The Drummer's Pro Shop in Lancaster. He has been a professional in the music industry for more than a decade, specializing in drum sales, repair, and education. In addition, Stec is the event organizer for the annual Pennsylvania Drum Show. Wilson has been a music educator for 23 years, currently acting as the band director at Brandywine School District, although he has been involved in music programs as a student and teacher for more than 40 years. Additionally, Wilson is a composer and percussion repair technician.
