Two Lower Dauphin High School seniors were recently honored. Katherine Foley was named Young Woman of the Month by the Women's Club of Hummelstown, and Miran Rezhan was named Student of the Month by the Rotary Club of Hummelstown.

Katherine is the daughter of Sean and Lisa Foley. She is a four-year member of the orchestra and participated in the Dauphin County Orchestra Festival and the Lebanon Valley College Honors Orchestra. She is a member of the high school's string quintet and played in the pit orchestra for the school's production of "Legally Blonde" and this year's show, "Seussical." She was in the cast for "Mamma Mia!"

Katherine is treasurer of the Spanish National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society, a team leader in the Science National Honor Society, and a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and History Honor Society. She also served as a buddy with Special Olympics, and she volunteers with Special Olympics' ski program.

In the community, Katherine is a member of the Pulse Program at the Hershey Medical Center. She volunteers in the summer science program at Lower Dauphin Middle School and takes private violin lessons at Lebanon Valley College.

She hopes to attend the University of Pittsburgh to major in biochemistry for pre-med, with the goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon or physician after medical school.

Miran is the son of Rezhan Hussein and Nibras Chalabi. He is a four-year member of the band and a three-year member of the marching band, and he played in a clarinet quartet last school year. He is a two-year member of the National English Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society, a one-year member of the Spanish National Honor Society, and a three-year member of the Math Honor Society. He was a two-year member of the Nanoline team that finished third in the nation.

In addition, Miran takes part in numerous volunteer activities and academic competitions.

He plans to attend Penn State University's Schreyer Honors College and major in biological sciences with the goal of becoming a dermatologist after medical school.
