Clothing ministry continues to bless the community

Nearly one year ago, Limeville's Blessings, a store that offers free clothing, household items, children's toys and more, opened at Limeville United Methodist Church. Since then, the church ministry has had a great impact in the community.

"July 16 will be our one-year anniversary," said church member Melanie Shivery, store coordinator. "We helped 264 families in 2022, and so far this year we have directly helped 268 families."

Because of the store's success, Shivery has been able to share with other local organizations in need. "We have been blessed with an abundance of donations from the outside community and consignment shops," she reported. "I have been able to go to other clothing banks and drop off clothes, help Octorara with their shoe drive and I donated 22 prom dresses to the Pequea Valley Cinderella Closet."

Limeville's Blessings offers clothing for men, women and children from newborn up to teen sizes; an assortment of shoes in all sizes; clothes for men and women that are suitable for a job interview; baby equipment, including car seats; household goods like blankets, towels and sheets; and personal care items.

Anyone in need of assistance is welcome to visit the store, and no proof of income or residency is required. Visitors can also be put on the church's prayer list.

Families are asked to come once a month for free items unless there are extenuating circumstances. "I just had a dad get full custody of his children, and he needed a little bit of everything," said Shivery, adding, "I have been so blessed to be here. It really opens your eyes. People are going through a lot. A family was living in the hotel, and I was able to get toys for their kids."

The store is located at the church but has its own entrance. "I tried to maximize the space, and I am still working on it. I just ordered another shelf, so the jeans will not be in bins anymore," Shivery noted. "We had to trade our minivan for a truck because of the abundance of donations. I am here twice a week for three to four hours sorting."

Those who visit the store are not required to join the church or make a donation, but they are welcome to do so if they wish. "If you want to come to church, you are welcome, but you don't have to do anything," Shivery said, adding, "I have built such personal relationships with the people who come here. It's like I gained a whole extra family by being here."

The success of the ministry is evident from the numerous letters of gratitude received from clients. One mother wrote, "The Blessings Store helped my daughter and grandkids at Christmas. Without the help of the Blessings Store, my grandkids wouldn't have had much of a Christmas."

Another person wrote, "(I am) truly grateful for Limeville's Blessings and all the people who put their time and love into this well organized, amazing heartful place."

Limeville's Blessings is located at 5783 Limeville Road, Gap. The store is open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations for the store are accepted during operating hours or by appointment. For more information, visit http://www.facebook.com/LimevillesBlessingsStore.
